David M. Murphy, Senior Investigator

Mr. Murphy began his investigative career in 1987 with Murphy Protective Investigative Resources Unlimited also known as Murphy Associates. Under the direction of his father, Francis R. Murphy, a former United States Secret Service Agent and Paterson Police Officer, David learned the investigative trade from the inside out. Over the course of several years, Frank imparted great insight into the investigative world and passed on elements of his Secret Service and police training. In addition to the years of this one-on-one training, David worked with and learned from other retired and former law enforcement officers, Secret Service Agents and FBI agents who assisted the company on complex investigations and security assignments.

Included in these projects was The Bill of Rights Tour, which was a fourteen month, cross country event, in Celebration of the 200 Anniversary of the celebrated document. David also worked on a World Cup Soccer Trophy tour which brought the iconic award to the United States.

Among his first training seminars was an intense course on special event risk assessment presented by a former USSS, Senior Special Agent, Bill Mattman. Over the next decade, David continued taking courses that related to prevention of workplace violence; hostage negotiations, violence and criminality as well training centered on insurance and corporate fraud, asset identification, computer technology, criminal defense, and surveillance techniques to name just a few.

No amount of training can bring the experience that is learned from actually working in the field and conducting an investigation. David continued to perfect his surveillance and background research skills working countless hours over many years, while also attending William Paterson University at night.

In 1998, David, Frank Murphy and Alex Toia joined forces to focus on providing premier surveillance and investigative services to the New Jersey legal community and insurance industry.

In 2000, David obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice at WPU. He also continued to participate in yearly training seminars and has also presented instruction as a surveillance expert.

Over the many years he has worked as a private detective, David has seen the resources and technology evolve. Transitioning from using a literal wall of telephone directories in the 1990s to becoming an expert Internet researcher came naturally. He has always recognized the need to stay ahead of the curve in what has become a technologically driven industry.

Over the course of his investigative career, David has handled many high profile cases and clients including radio talk show hosts, authors, politicians, comedians, sports figures, and high net worth clients in matters ranging from highly contested divorce and child custody proceedings, stalking, harassment, criminal defense, fraud reduction and major litigation.

David has served on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey License Private Investigators Association since 2008 and is currently the Secretary of the Association.

In 2010, David came to Cyber Investigations to work with Desiree and help with the growing company’s case load. He and Desiree look forward to servicing the legal, corporate and insurance industries by providing them with professional, timely and economical investigative services. David is the proud father of the three boys and lives in Blairstown, NJ with his wife, Desiree.
